📖 How to Play Flag Zone
1
The grid is split into coloured zones. Plant exactly one flag 🚩 in every row, every column, and every coloured zone.
2
No two flags can touch — not even diagonally. Every flag needs clear space around it in all 8 directions.
3
Tap once to mark a cell ✕ (rule it out).

Tap again to plant a flag 🚩.

Tap again to clear.

When you plant a flag, impossible cells are automatically marked ✕ to help narrow things down.
4
Flags that break a rule turn red — they share a row, column, zone, or are touching another flag.
5
Every puzzle has exactly one solution. Start with zones that only have one possible cell — that's your first flag!
🎯
7 difficulty levels per grid size:
🟢 Beginner — several flags pre-planted, full auto-hints
😊 Easy — a few starter flags
🤔 Medium — one starter flag
😤 Hard — no starters, full auto-hints
🔥 Very Hard — no starters, minimal hints
🔬 Scientist — auto-hints hidden, you're on your own
🤖 Cyborg — pure logic, no help at all

📖 How to Play Flag Zone

Flag Zone is a strategic placement puzzle based on the classic N-Queens problem, extended with a visual twist that makes each puzzle feel like a unique challenge. Your goal is to place one flag (queen) on each row of the grid such that no two flags share a column, and no two flags occupy the same diagonal. At higher difficulties, colour zones add an additional constraint — no two flags may be placed in cells of the same colour zone.

The colour zone mechanic is what elevates Flag Zone beyond the classic N-Queens puzzle. A standard 8-Queens puzzle has 92 solutions; with colour-zone constraints layered on top, the solution space collapses dramatically, often to a unique arrangement. This transforms a combinatorial puzzle into a logic deduction puzzle where the correct positions can be reasoned out systematically rather than found by trial and error.

Grid sizes map to the standard Cliko difficulty ladder from 5×5 to 11×11. At 5×5, the puzzle can be solved in a few minutes by most players. At 11×11 with complex colour zones, the puzzle requires careful systematic elimination and may take 15–20 minutes. The daily challenge uses a fresh seeded grid and is the same for all players — your solve time ranks on the daily leaderboard.

Flag Zone is one of the most popular strategy puzzles on Cliko Games because it is accessible (the rules fit on a single sentence) but scales to genuine intellectual depth. It has developed a dedicated community of speed-solvers who share techniques for rapidly eliminating impossible placements using diagonal reasoning chains.

The clean grid interface, crisp flag icons, and immediate visual feedback on conflicts make Flag Zone a pleasure to play on any device. Touch-optimised for mobile with a large-target interface, and keyboard-accessible on desktop.

💡 Tips & Strategies

🧠
Think Ahead
Start with the most constrained row or column — where the colour zones leave the fewest valid cells.
Start Simple
Elimination is faster than placement — for each row, mark which cells are impossible first.
🎯
Daily First
Every placed flag eliminates its entire row, column, and both diagonals — track these visually.
🔄
Use Restart
Colour zones often force a flag into a specific column before you have considered that row at all.
📈
Track Your Best
On large grids, work from the corners where diagonal constraints are naturally dense.
